Meet at the Carden bridge on Rolland. Bring loppers, trimmers, and hand saws if you can. We will pick up trash, clear debris, and cut back the Privet and other invasive plants along the creek. Cold bottled water will be available and please bring a mask, but, we will practice social distancing as cautiously as possible and work singularly to avoid issue. This is probably not an event for children and our alternate date in the event of heavy rain or high water is the following Saturday the 24th at the same time. If bad weather or high water a cancellation notice will go out over the Google Groups.

The 4th of July 2020 will be remembered for many years as the year we couldn't have a party due to the Caronaviris. However, a few residents went all the way with decorations and a family events on their front yards. If we had awards I think the top home would be the winner.. Photos from Cyril Stewart.

Next Friday on June 12th, WANA has arranged for two food trucks to come to the top of Carden Ave. at Whitland Ave from 4:30 to 7:30.
Califarmia fresh California cuisine using local ingredients will provide the main food. Califarmia uses a web based link for its orders and payments (credit cards only) that can be ordered a few days in advance or during its time at Carden on Friday evening.
Bradley’s Creamery will provide ice cream for dessert. Bradley’s also has a link that will be provided and they will accept walk up orders and cash/credit cards.
WANA has arranged this event for your convenience. Hopefully it will be fun and yummy, and we continue to encourage social distancing. This event is a pickup, maybe mingle a little, and take home your dinner/dessert situation. We look forward to this fun option next Friday.

This coming Saturday we are going to have an informal creek clean up starting at 10:00 AM. In order to observe social distancing we will not be providing any food or drink and we will split up with trash bags for the majority of the clean up. There may be a little cutting of brush around the Leonard/Rolland intersection. I suspect if several show up to assist we can probably finish way prior to noon.
Check out the upcoming Dog Show on our Facebook.com/
Stay safe and I hope to see some of you this coming Saturday morning at 10:00 am at the Carden bridge.

This was the flood a few days ago. Now we need to clean up the trash that was left behind

If you are out walking in Easter can you find the beautiful white azaleas under the magnificent dogwood in full bloom. It’s in the heart of WANA.

Dear WANA Neighbors,
COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on the world and our country. If you are an older member of our community and feel that you could use some assistance, whether simply taking trash cans out and back or you have more urgent needs like the dropping off of food, please consider this Google groups as a forum in which you can reach out for help. Our community has shown time again that we are there to help one another, and the Google Group could function as a way to match those needing help and those able to do so. Find the GoogleGroup.com and select Whitland. If you have not registered yet then go to Whitland.org, click on the Google Group tab, and fill in the required information. Your request will be approved and you can then post information on the Google Group. The Google Group is for Whitland Residents only.
Best regards
Steve Curnutte, President, Whitland Area Neighborhood Association

Due to the forecast of heavy rain all day Saturday, the creek cleanup moved to Sunday at 2:00. We met at the pedestrian bridge at Mary Catherine Strobel Park (end of Carden Ave.). We had enough tools for those who come with willing hands. Enjoy the photos.Due to the forecast of heavy rain all day Saturday, the creek cleanup moved to Sunday at 2:00. It was the coldest night since last winter but it brought out one of the biggest crowds along with the best chicken ever..Click on any photo to enlarge it
That's all for this year.

Yard Sale
Our yard sales participated this year and reported good crowds of shoppers and sales. We were also fortunate to have a dumpster from Metro for those large bulk items as well as Goodwill involved. Thank you to Denise Hawkins for organizing both on our behalf. This event involves lots of moving pieces to both ensure there is adequate promotion to ensure we get enough traffic as well as facilitation to align and organize all of the third parties involved. Thank you to the Board for support.
Fence at Whitland and Bowling
Many neighbors have complained about the fence erected at the corner of Whitland and Bowling. It violates Codes by being too close to the sidewalk as well as being too tall. This creates safety issues for cars, bikes, and pedestrians. The Whitland Area Neighborhood Association has, as have several neighbors, contacted the city and requested that the fence be brought into compliance with Metro Codes.
Movies by the Creek
Saturday, September 7th
Our annual fall Movies by the Creek featured two showings for young and old. Our early movie was Coco and the late show featured To Kill A Mockingbird. Movie candy, beverages, and popcorn were provided to round out the experience and enhance an already enjoyable evening.
Mutt Mitt Box
A new Mutt Mitt box with dog waste bags was installed just to the left of the main entrance into Brighton Close. Please use at your convenience and dispose of the used bags appropriately.
Fall Creek Cleanup
The fall Creek Cleanup is scheduled for the morning of October 26th from 9:00-12:00. In addition to our normal invasive plant removal and trash cleanup, we plan to install some new plants and ground cover near the new erosion control area by the Craighead Spring (where the swing used to be). This is always a spirited event and we encourage as many possible to join for the cleanup. Keeping the creek under control benefits our whole community.
Halloween Celebration and Costume Judging
WANA will again have its annual Halloween celebration and costume contest at the end of Carden near Mary Catherine Strobel Park on Halloween. There will be awards for best costumes based on age-ranges. This has historically been a fun and well-attended event and a great way to kick off the night. Costume judging will begin at 5:00.
WANA Youth Committee
WANA is setting up a Youth Committee for high-school aged kids living in WANA. This is an effort to get our neighborhood young persons involved in our community’s activities like the Creek Clean Up. It is being spearheaded by Oscar Fox. If you wish to learn more or are interested in learning more, please email Oscar directly at williamfox21@email.usn.org.

On Saturday, September 21st, from 8am until noon, WANA will be supporting a number of our neighbors having yard sales. We encourage you to join the fun. Some will be selling on Friday as well. There are always things that don't sale. So, WANA has arranged for a Goodwill Truck to be in the parking lot of Blakemore United Methodist Church between 1:00 and 2:30.Then there are things not good enough for Goodwill. WANA has arranged with Metro Nashville to have a dumpster on Whitland, in front of 3800 Whitland, between 8:00am-1:00pm.We always seem to overflow the one dumpster so a second dumpster has been ordered (paid for by your dues) to be located at the corner of Whitland and Wilson. It will probably be there from Friday until sometime Monday. We hope you enjoy the yard sales and encourage you to get with your neighbors and have a hot dog and chips picnic. Maybe call it, "Eat junk and talk trash"!WAIT THERE IS MORE YOU NEED TO KNOW !! Scroll down the page
