WANA has organized an Ice Cream Social night where we hope folks will gather to purchase a treat from Bradley’s Creamery. This food truck loves visiting our amazing neighborhood, so let’s show them our love!
As kids are starting back to school, let’s celebrate and beat the heat. In conjunction with the ice cream truck setup on Monday, Aug. 15th (5:30 – 7:30), we hope you’ll consider donating school supplies to benefit MNPS and DG PENCIL Box. Help Stock the PENCIL Box! Attached to this email you will find our event flyer and the current “most wanted” list for teachers supplied by PENCIL Box. To read more about this organization, including an Amazon link directly to the supplies requested, use the links below.
So, come out for a sweet treat and bring any new school supplies you wish to donate to a fantastic cause. We’ll have collection bins near the truck at the corner of Carden & Whitland as well as an envelope if you’d like to donate money; all supplies will be delivered to PENCIL Box later in the week. Any funds received from you will be used to purchase additional items on the most wanted list to stock the store where Metro teachers shop for FREE. Thank you advance for your generosity!

Where:Right here at the Carden Bridge
When:Sunday, December 12th at 3:30 pm
What: A family gathering to enjoy holiday cheer together over some warm winter beverages with fire pits and S’mores.
Mark your calendars for a week from this Sunday, December 12th at 3:30 pm for this year’s WANA Holiday Party. Due to the pandemic and possible risks we have decided to have an outdoor gathering at Mary Catherine Strobel Park at the end of Carden at the bridge at 3:30 on the 12th. Since outside we hope to observe some reasonable social distancing and fresh air should help mitigate risks. WANA will provide a couple of fire pits blazing, all of the makings for S’mores, and we will have a variety of warm/hot drinks including hot chocolate, hot cider, and an adult hot toddy for those over 21 that choose an adult beverage. This is a full family event so bring the kids, get a S’more or two, and enjoy a warm drink while celebrating the season with other WANA folks. Hopefully the weather will comply, the Titans will be finished with a victory, and in the event of dangerous weather we will address on the 11th or 12th. WANA assumes it will be a chilly day so dress accordingly.
Additionally, this coming Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th will be our annual dumpster day. Two 40 yard dumpsters will show up early to mid afternoon on Friday the 24th, they will be located on Whitland Avenue in front of 3750 Whitland (near Carden intersection) and in front of 3701 Whitland Avenue (near Craighead intersection), and they will be taken away mid afternoon on Saturday (Waste Management is a bit imprecise on their arrival and take away times). These dumpster surprisingly typically fill up very fast so make definitive plans to arrive with waste Friday afternoon or as early as possible on Saturday morning. Once full we will close the dumpsters and hopefully Waste Management will come and go at the appropriate times. No chemicals, paints, or electric appliances are allowed in the dumpsters.
Hope all are remaining safe during our extended pandemic limitations. Come on back normal life soon – please !!
As part of holiday season neighbors have sent in their favorite charities for anyone who is look for ideas for charitable donations.

Meet at the Carden bridge on Rolland. Bring loppers, trimmers, and hand saws if you can. We will pick up trash, clear debris, and cut back the Privet and other invasive plants along the creek. Cold bottled water will be available and please bring a mask, but, we will practice social distancing as cautiously as possible and work singularly to avoid issue. This is probably not an event for children and our alternate date in the event of heavy rain or high water is the following Saturday the 24th at the same time. If bad weather or high water a cancellation notice will go out over the Google Groups.
The 4th of July 2020 will be remembered for many years as the year we couldn't have a party due to the Caronaviris. However, a few residents went all the way with decorations and a family events on their front yards. If we had awards I think the top home would be the winner.. Photos from Cyril Stewart.
Next Friday on June 12th, WANA has arranged for two food trucks to come to the top of Carden Ave. at Whitland Ave from 4:30 to 7:30.
Califarmia fresh California cuisine using local ingredients will provide the main food. Califarmia uses a web based link for its orders and payments (credit cards only) that can be ordered a few days in advance or during its time at Carden on Friday evening.
Bradley’s Creamery will provide ice cream for dessert. Bradley’s also has a link that will be provided and they will accept walk up orders and cash/credit cards.
WANA has arranged this event for your convenience. Hopefully it will be fun and yummy, and we continue to encourage social distancing. This event is a pickup, maybe mingle a little, and take home your dinner/dessert situation. We look forward to this fun option next Friday.
